a few months ago i purchased some glasses from bonlook. i can't remember how i heard about this site, but i think it was in russh magazine or something.

anyway, all up i think i ended up paying about $130 for each pair including prescription, which i think is pretty incredible. best thing about the site is that you can "try on" the glasses using the webcam on your computer. endless fun.

first: whisky tortoise | second: drink the kool-aid beachwood

i highly recommend both styles. the lenses aren't as large as some of the other styles they have on the site and, having small eyes and a small nose bridge, both sit really well on my face. i realised post-purchase that both pairs i picked were very mad men, which i'm pretty ok with. i think i actually wear glasses more than i don't these days because of work - contacts make me want to scratch my eyeballs out by the end of a whole day in front of a screen. so why not have a few pairs that make life a bit more interesting.

here are some of my other favourites:

drink the kool-aid walnut
la marquise black
square marlowe dark chocolate
poppy grapevine
robinson black
   square marlowe crystal

bang bang

thought i would open with the shoes. they are actually amazing. not only do they look incredible on, but they are surprisingly comfortable. i must admit, i wasn't totally convinced by the colour until i saw them in person. something not black and oxblood-ish, which i am totally into right now. alexander wang, i applaud you for creating awesome shoes. and secondly, many thanks must go to ebay for making it possible for me to own or even afford this pair of shoes.
dress: lonely hearts | necklace: sophie kyron | bag: antik batik (similar) | shoes: alexander wang | watch: vintage cartier | wrist: vintage georg jensen, cartier | rings: cartier, sportsgirl

we attended a wedding on the weekend. being the middle of winter, i struggled to come up with an appropriate outfit. when i think wedding, i immediately think: colour. but being winter, that rules out a lot of options. don't you think it looks weird to wear a pretty, floral, strapless dress in the middle of winter? and then put a big black coat over it? or freeze to death...

so, my considerations for picking a winter wedding outfit were:
1. what are more wintery colours? (i never wear black or white to a wedding except for a formal reception)
2. what will go with black (maybe grey) stockings? (nude stockings weird me out too much)
3. what looks ok with a jacket/cardi/coat over it?
4. what jacket/cardi/coat can i wear that isn't black?

anyway, i ended up with this lonely hearts dress. it has (sheer) sleeves and is in a great oxblood colour (ok, completely obsessed), which i think is quite wintery. the day ended up being so perfect and warm that i didn't even need stockings or outerwear.

on my mind

on my mind 6
top: 3.1 phillip lim | jeans: j brand | bag: tsumori chisato | hat: tsumori chisato | phone cover: tsumori chisato | shoes: acne

i am obsessed with these acne boots. i keep envisaging all the different outfits i will could wear them with. sigh...

i love tsumori chisato. i first discovered the japanese designer on a trip to hong kong about 10 years ago and then a few years later in japan. so cute, so quirky and so different. she also seems to have a slightly weird, slightly creepy affinity with cats. i'm ok with that. i love her wallets - if you've ever seen them in real life, they are all different and unique. i think if my wallet ever gets stolen (again) i might have to replace it with one of tsumori's. her shoes are also really fun and often quite novelty. i got these ones about 6 or 7 years ago in japan and to date they have to the be the most comfortable pair of shoes i have ever owned (didn't even need to be worn in) and have also lasted me forever. i also saw the cat ears hat online and decided that i must try and get my hands on it.

lust list

my (very extensive) lust list: some old some new, some realistic and some only in my dreams (possible only though ebay and the generosity of my friends and family ;))

lust list

ok, there is a lot. and I just realised that most of it is black and white! typical.

from left to right:

1. ankle boots
i need a pair that i will absolutely live in, other than my topshop ones of course. i have seriously been lusting over these acne star boots for about 2 months now. trying to justify the price with how much i will wear them...

i made the mistake of spotting the acne alma suede booties in elle the other week and made the even bigger mistake of trying them on. have now convinced myself i need them too. these alexander wang kori boots are also a nice alternative, albeit another black shoe. love the heel detail though. ingenious.

for a more sophisticated evening look in winter these yves saint laurent pointed booties are also quite lovely and also quite out of my price range. i loved the isabel marant ones that came out a few years ago, but have lost almost all hope of ever finding them.

2. leather biker jacket
i already have a black shearling leather jacket, but of course a biker jacket is another must have (right?). i think all saints make a fantastic one and topshop's is also not bad.

3. feathered skirt
i know this look is old, but there's just something about it that i find so intriguing and fun (picture yourself doing a twirl in one of these). zara did one like 3 years ago and sretsis did a pink one, which i probably would have gotten my hands on had it been $500 less. such a fun look to wear, even with just a t-shirt.

4. white blazer with black lapel
i fell in love with this blazer when lover released it last year. have been trying to win it on ebay ever since, but to no avail. this one by zara is also a pretty good alternative, although i must say lover's tailoring is hard to match.

5.  patterned shift dress
for a dress that i can just throw on. this one by zara isn't bad and pretty affordable. i love the ones by secret south, but i can't justify paying $379 for a simple dress... might have to wait it out for the sales.

6. trench coat
everyone needs a beige trench. of course burberry is the ultimate, but i have seen pretty good alternatives by zara and gap.

7. one-piece swimsuit
my good friend emma has a black one-piece which she looks fantastic in. i never considered wearing a one-piece because i don't think i have the figure for it. however, i really like these ones by seventh wonderland, but possibly need a bigger bust to pull it off.

8. leather pencil skirt
not particular about brand, just love the look. something different from your average pencil skirt. the different texture of leather just adds that little something to make it more edgy, yet still sophisticated. kahlo do some great leather and this all saints one is also pretty nice. come to think of it, asos have a fantastic 3/4 length one that has been seen on quite a few bloggers and even celebrities. i think i may be too short to pull off this kind of length though.

9. black leather leggings/jeans
everyone has either the helmut lang leggings or the j brand leather jeans. they look incredible, but who can afford to pay $1,000??? faux leather has been my alternative, but i must admit it makes your legs sweat like crazy - gross.

10. zara skorts
yeah, yeah everyone has them, but i really like the look. slick and easy to wear.

11. leather tee
i seem to want a lot of leather don't i? better than your average cotton tee. great for winter. and will last forever! of course i can't ever afford this one by gucci, but it's nice to be inspired.

12. pointed pumps
so in love with the pumps by manolo blahnik - the shape is so chic and monolos are so comfy. also love the jimmy choo anouks, especially in silver. hot. i am always willing to spend a little more for good quality and long-lasting footwear. but maybe not that much more.

13. lace up sandals
we saw the alaia ones being worn by celebrities and fashionistas worldwide and i have lusted over lace up sandals ever since. of course the cheaper brands have followed, such as zara, tony bianco and windsor smith, but it's just not the same. i love these ones by brian atwood, giuseppe zanotti and alejandro ingelmo. ended up with these luiza barcelos ones.

14. rose gold watch
also another trend that's been around for a while. lots of people own the michael kors watches, but i also quite like the marc jacobs ones. maybe i can weasel my friends into getting me an early birthday present hehe...

23 June 2013

this coat is my mum's - it's some random brand from italy. don't know if you can see clearly from the pictures but the pattern on it is small black and white checks. it's also this great lightweight material that almost feels raincoat-ish. she has had it forever, never wears it, so now it's mine haha.
coat: vintage | top: topshop | jeans: j brand | bag: antik batik (similar) | shoes: alexander wang | watch: vintage cartier

this beautiful clutch bag was a present from my sister and my new brother-in-law. it's stunning and the detail is amazing. embroidered, with little mirrors on it and even pom poms. they got it for me from paris while on their honeymoon.

my jeans and the shoes were scores from ebay - more on them later. been quite ebay savvy lately - selling lots of my stuff and buying a bit of stuff (to replace it of course hehe...). don't know if i can ever pay full price for anything again...

sweaters: topshop

maybe because it's getting colder, i have found myself looking a lot at sweaters. they seem like a boring choice and even slightly on the trashy side (think jeggings and ugg boots). but when i really think about it, the basic sweater or t-shirt is what i really do end up wearing the most in my wardrobe. it's so easy to throw on and oh so comfortable. i guess you can always "dress it up" with a statement necklace, skinny jeans and killer heels.

i recommend the ones by topshop - if you want the basic of basics that is. i recently purchased... 3... but you can also get ones with tigers or horses or even unicorns on them from asos, topshop and kenzo (if you are willing to spend an easy $250 or so).

net-a-porter sale

if i was rich, i would buy this outfit from net-a-porter right now:

net-a-porter sale

earrings: marni | clutch: alexander mcqueen | jumpsuit: maison martin margiela | shoes: saint laurent
frothing at the mouth over this jumpsuit. wonder if i can find an asos knock-off...

the return

ok, so this is my second comeback.

there were many reasons why i stopped (for a second time). i was uninspired, stupid busy with work, couldn't be bothered, blah blah blah. i think i felt that i was producing something that was for everyone else and not for me.

my decision to restart the blog was during the last few weeks. there have been a number of big changes in my life recently and maybe i have become re-inspired again or something. who knows.

anyway, a new beginning means a new name - reckless abandon. let's just say it was inspired from a late night maccas binge in 2010.

here goes.
