here's a peek and our day in pamukkale. we drove 3 hours from izmir - a very pleasant drive - and it was worth it.
it's doesn't really look the same as the pictures you see on the internet as most of the pools are dry due to conservation efforts, but it was still an incredible sight to see. the white is created from the sedimentary deposits from the hot springs, so it forms what looks like snow or cotton but is actually rock hard. there is an ancient city on top of the hill that dates back to 2nd century BC, so people have been bathing in the pools for thousands of years! and, surprisingly, the water is actually quite warm!
